My daughter, Haylee Kate, was diagnosed with APML Leukemia, which is a rare form, on November 21, 2011 at 8 years old. I thought this would be a good way for me to get my thoughts and feelings out and to let others know about her ups and downs throughout her treatment.

6/7/12 - Feeling better in time for Fun with the Falcons and B-I-N-G-O!

Haylee had a MUCH better night last night even though she was still up and down because of the fluids.  She is so over the fluids and having to bring her IV pole everywhere!!!
No fever overnight or during the day today...YAY!!  She's complained about having a headache off and on today but she hasn't been eating very well and that could make anyone have a headache.  Today, she didn't eat until a little after 1pm and all it was was a Ritz Cracker Fresh Stack sleeve (which is only about 8 crackers or so).  I don't force her to eat because she'll eat when she's hungry.  I'll simply make suggestions and let her decide if she wants it or not.  CURE brought dinner tonight - pizza, salad, and cookies.  I was able to get her to eat almost a whole slice of pizza (it was a bigger piece) and 2 cookies.  She is on a 20g of fat a day diet restriction to help maintain her triglycerides.  20g seems like a lot until you have to monitor it.  Luckily, the TruMoo Chocolate Milk she's been drinking is fat free because she's been living off of it and drinking up the floor's supply!!!  Yesterday, she only had 12g of fat all day and today she had 24g.  I expected the fat in the pizza and cookies but the Ritz had 8g!!  I was surprised.  After dinner, we Skyped with Adam and Mason then watched a movie on Disney.

There were a few things going on around the hospital today so we weren't so bored!  At 1pm, the family library was supposed to be doing 'Legos in the Library' but when we went down there, nothing was going on.  People were in there but they were either playing games on the computers or reading books.  We saw no Legos.  We had some time to kill before the next event, so we squeezed in a bath real quick.  Lindsay came by afterwards to hang out with Haylee for a little bit before going downstairs to meet some of the rookie players from the Atlanta Falcons.  One group played games, did arts and crafts, and had a Wii competition with different kids.  The other group visited different patient rooms and did interviews at The Voice.  We stayed and played, of course!  Haylee made a pillowcase with Jerrell Harris and James Rodgers.  After that, she made her way to a group playing 'Don't Break the Ice'.  I think they had more fun playing the game than Haylee did!  They were hilarious to watch because they really got into it.  She was able to get a whole group watching her games and they would get rowdy, rooting her on.  She ended up playing with Max Gruder and Chad Faulcon more often than not.  They played the Wii, 'Don't Break the Ice' (multiple games!) , and 'Battleship' with her.  Some of the other players we saw were Peter Konz (the Falcons 2nd round draft pick...who, apparently, I was sitting next to the whole time watching him play 'Connect Four' with another rookie and didn't even know it), Lamar Holmes, Bradie Ewing, and Dominique Davis.  It was really nice to see these guys playing with the kids, getting loud, and acting like kids themselves.

Haylee and a rookie player (not sure of his name)

Playing 'Don't Break the Ice' with a group of players.  Lamar Holmes is leaning on her IV pole, Max Gruder is sitting to her left, and Dominique Davis is standing up in the black shirt.

Playing 'Don't Break the Ice' with Max...him and Haylee were on a first-name basis!

Another game with another player...and a rowdy group of on-lookers!

Setting up for yet another game with Max

On to 'Battleship'...where Haylee sunk all of Max's ships (with Chad Faulcon's help, who is sitting across from Haylee in the black shirt)

After the visit with the Falcons, we hustled upstairs to get hooked up to the AR-C (we had 15 mins left before they came and hunted us down!).  We went to BINGO at 6pm where Haylee was able to snag NASCAR stickers for Mason (Hendrick racers, of course!), a ceramic coffee cup for me (love it!), and a case of shiny rocks for herself ('minerals from around the world' - she was eyeballing it as soon as she saw it and was so excited no one got it before she could).

All in all, it was a good day.  A little headache throughout the day but I held her off from any kind of meds until bedtime.  Hopefully, her day will be 100x better tomorrow cause there's a lot of Hospital Happenings tomorrow, too!!!
